Our mission: To actively promote and protect human rights and democracy in Cambodia.
CHRAC emerged as an action committee in 1994, uniting leading human rights organizations within the country. It became a registered coalition organization in 2016 to align itself with regulatory requirements of the Cambodian Royal Government. Facing political influence and leadership challenges, CHRAC was forced into hiatus for several years. Amidst an uncertain political backdrop and a restricted civic space, CHRAC re-emerged in 2019. This resurgence was coordinated by ADHOC and led by the founding organizations, with the support of esteemed figures such as Dr. Meas Nee, Mr. Sotha Ros, Mr. Sok Sam Oeun, and other independent human rights activists, scholars, and NGO experts. Jointly recognizing the critical need for a united front to defend human rights and democratic values during challenging times, CHRAC was revitalized.
Today, the Cambodian Human Rights Action Coalition (CHRAC) is a 17-member coalition of local non-profit organizations working in the fields of human rights, law, and democracy. CHRAC is comprised of individuals who embody inspiring leadership, dynamism, dedication to human rights, democratic principles, and unwavering integrity. CHRAC has established itself as a professional and constructive model, providing support and shade for civil society organizations, while earning respect from a multitude of stakeholders.
