A hands-on training course on Mental Resilience proved to be highly effective in addressing and strengthening the mental resilience of participants, including strong engagement from girls and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Based on pre- and post-training assessments, the training significantly improved participants’ mental health status—reducing many from a condition requiring care or treatment to a state of good mental well-being. Totally, we trained 96 women and girls from the most affected areas: Choukchey village (Chansy Temple IDP Camp) and Boeung Trokuon (Kandaul IDP Camp) in Bantheay Meanchey province. It was taken place from 23 – 26 March 026.
Ms. Saum Sophea (សោម សុភា), a resident of Boeung Trokuon and a victim of the Cambodia–Thailand border violations, shared her experience. She lost her land, house, and property and was forced to reside at Kandaul Temple IDP camp. Tragically, her son later died in a traffic accident, leaving her deeply traumatized. She reported crying day and night and suffering from severe sleep difficulties.
After attending the first day of the training, she was able to sleep for the first time in a long period. By the end of the two-day training, she expressed that she felt relieved, calmer, and mentally refreshed.
