Through 3,000 Civil society Cambodian had been able to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the theme “Ensure Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All, inline with the theme of the United Nations on Human Rights, and was conducted with a few dedicated activities: Online Campaign, Dhammayietra for Human Rights for 250km from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, and Dhammarietra/peaceful march by motor-tricycles from the National Assembly House to the Freedom Park, and Public Assembly/Forum at the Freedom Park with those 3,000 people from NGOs, Trade Unions, Grassroots Organizations, Human Rights Defenders and some victims of human rights. It should noticed that exercising walking in many groups and such a big gather had been impossible since 2017 due to the political constraints and COVID 19 issue. However, this time, we faced some restriction made by the provincial authorities in Siem Reap, for the rests were smooth and proper coordination with the national and provincial authorities. CHRAC did all it through its leadership to create a optimistic event and trust/warm environment for every one of the participants. The walkers and participants were confident, cheering and happy and free to express in more constructive way.
The event was honored and observed by several Diplomats and UN Resident Coordinator Representatives, especially, H.E. Patrick Murphy, the Ambassador of the United States of America gave a Joint Opening Remark in friendship as a large donor to Cambodia and CSOs, as a Diplomacy to the Kingdom and a signatory of the Paris Peace Agreements on Cambodia. Other diplomats were the Representatives of EU Delegations (Deputy of the Mission and His Colleague), Representative the British Embassy, Representative of Japan Embassy and representative of the UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia. We also invited Chinese Embassy, but didn’t respond. No political parties of two main coalitions were not attend as invited too.
